We are happy to present Abeira, our new sling bag created with references to the pouch (an element present in the traditional costumes of the Portuguese regions of Minho and Beira Litoral).

The pouch is originally a small piece, normally made from fabric or a mix of leftover fabrics. It is imbued with great symbolism, whether due to the shape of the heart (e.g. the Minho pouch) or its placement inside the skirt or integrated into a piece of clothing. The pouch is often an object that also reflected social status. Since the Arab period in our territory, the pouch remains until today as a traditional object that is still part of the folklore costume used in several regions of our country.

The name Abeira arises from the combination of Algibeira and the idea of the Beira region.

In everything similar to the term “à beira…” (meaning: “very near…”) so used in our region for something you want to have close by. This last idea illustrates well the function of the bag we present. To be used Abeira.

Abeira is created using industrial surpluses from shoe factories in the S. João da Madeira and Felgueiras areas. We at Pickpocket value the artisanal construction process that we inherited from bag makers masters based in our region, and thus, we intend to continue the life of this excellent raw material that is leather, by making unique objects with an historical Portuguese legacy.
